Father Centurio Olaboro is a priest in the Kwapa Parish of the Tororo Archdiocese. He grew up in the era of the capricious dictator Idi Amin, and his father, a lawyer, was executed by Amin when Fr. Centurio was in his teens. In the late 80s his sister founded an orphanage on his family land to look after the emerging groups of AIDS orphans. When she died of AIDS herself, he took over care and administration of the orphanage, now called the Uganda Martyr’s Orphans Project, which has grown into a school and orphanage caring for hundreds of children. He has a variety of other projects, focusing on empowering communities to take care of themselves. He lives on his family land, which he has dedicated entirely to charitable endeavors. Idwe Kolia represents Father Centurio’s dream of having a branch of his organization dedicated to the support and maintenance of healthy communities.

“As a priest, with my responsibility, there are more that must be helped” ~Fr. Centurio

Address of Memorial Service: 1763 NW 62nd Street, Seattle, WA 98107. This memorial will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. The program will include light refreshments. The ICS Guiding Council has set up the Karen Lindquist Memorial Fund in Honor of Reverend Karen and her long and dedicated service to Interfaith Community Sanctuary. If you wish to donate to this fund, please go to the Donation page of our website. There you can designate your donation to the Rev. Karen Lindquist Memorial Fund.

All memorial funds will be used to honor Reverend Karen’s legacy, and for the beautification and enhancement our historic building and Interfaith programs in ways she would have wished.

Reverend Karen Lindquist has been a central pillar and guiding light for our community ever since the inception of Interfaith Community Sanctuary in 1998. Reverend Karen passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 4, 2024. ICS was her all-consuming love, passion, and life’s work. Her absence leaves an immense void in our hearts and in the work of our community. Reverend Karen was a unique visionary, and dedicated servant of service. She worked tirelessly every day to ensure the smooth administration of the Sanctuary programs, aligning them with our vision of Interfaith understanding, cooperation and collaboration locally, nationally, and internationally. She repeatedly emphasized the critical need for each of us to stay connected with our Divine purpose through spiritual practices, careful study, and self- introspection.  This work leads us all to be of authentic selfless service in the community and the world.

Our 2024 Spiritual Discernment
Making a Home for the Mystic Heart

Please note: Friday Prayers in the Islamic Tradition is a woman-led gathering. Women and men stand, sit, and pray together. Different participants lead the congregational prayer. Whenever possible, Qur’anic verses and traditional prayers are offered in Arabic and translated into English.

Our prayer gathering is a collaborative sharing and spiritually deepening experience guided by Muslim / Christian scholar, author and teacher, Bahiyaa Ann Holmes Redding, a minister, author, teacher, PhD in New Testament, singer, and spiritual director—presents locally, nationally, and internationally. Both Christian and Muslim since 2006, Ann is founder of Abrahamic Reunion West, a non-profit committed to healing the global dysfunction of the Abrahamic family of faith.  She is co-author with Jamal Rahman and Kathleen Schmitt Elias of “Out of Darkness into Light: Spiritual Guidance in the Quran with Reflections from Jewish and Christian Sources.”

The weekly khutbah (sermon, address, message, teaching, reflection) is offered by Bahiyaa Ann Holmes Redding in English. There are times participants or guests may offer words of wisdom. Bahiyaa also invites all participants to share personal reflections upon the theme during our group discussion.

Opening the Heart
We begin in the Name of God,
Everlasting Mercy, Infinite Compassion.
Praise be to God, Loving Lord of all the worlds.
Everlasting Mercy, Infinite Compassion.
Eternal Strength of every living being,
Whose Majestic Power embraces us on the day of the great return.
Only You do we adore, and to You alone do we cry for help.
Guide us, O God, on the path of Perfect Harmony,
the path of those whom You have blessed with the gifts of Peace, Joy, Serenity and Delight,
the path of those who are not brought down by anger,
the path of those who are not lost along the way.
Amin
So be it.
