is a veteran's return and healing grassroots organization created by members and friends of Interfaith Community Sanctuary formed following a visit to our community by author of "War and the Soul," Ed Tick, Ph.D.
Dr. Tick is a nationally recognized specialist in holistic therapeutic interventions for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He presents an alternative, wholistic, psycho-spiritual model for healing from PTSD. He says that PTSD is not a stress and anxiety disorder, but needs to be understood as an identify disorder and a soul wound. It is a natural response to extreme traumatic circumstances such as war and violence.
Dr. Tick studies warrior cultures and draws from these cultures in the healing of veterans, thier families and communities. The war survivor is changed forever and the wounds sustained take over the individual. Many continue to live in a war consciousness long after returning home.
Since our initial meeting with Dr. Tick, Interfaith Community Sanctuary and The Theosophical Society, as well as other educational institutions have continued to collaborate in supporting his important healing work, trainings, workshops and retreats.
Sally Jo Gilbert de Vargas hosts a monthly Soldiers Heart Seattle dialogue at Interfaith Community Sanctuary and is involved in arranging visits by Ed Tick and his wife Kate Dahlstedt. Members also facilitate book groups to read and discuss the book, War and the Soul in community.
