Healing the Dark Side of the Interbeing
What is the Interbeing? We are. The deepest mystical side of nearly every spiritual tradition will speak to the concept of Unity. The mystics have been telling us from time immemorial that “We are all One!” Curiously, science which has become the new “god” of modern times is finally catching up to the mystics of old. Science now confirms: Unity of all is not just a spiritual concept but the very nature of reality. We are all manifestations of the Interbeing. But this class is not about explaining this. This class is about accepting the truth of this and bringing healing to the place it is most powerful, within us.
Carl Jung taught us the concept of the Shadow Self. He shined a light on the hidden within us, the part of ourselves that we not only want to deny but can’t even recognize as ourselves. So if we can’t recognize this Shadow within us, how do we know it is there? It is the part that we project into the world and say, “Look at that ugliness out there. I am not like that. That is not me.” That is our Shadow Self.
We not only have individual Shadows, we have collective Shadows, the Collective Unconscious. The collective shadow seems to be growing and becoming a very dark cloud on our world. My optimistic view is that the Shadow is emerging from the depths because it is calling out for healing.
The Container of the Confraternity Prayers
We will use a series of prayers brought to the world by Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Sufi mystic who brought Sufism to the West in 1910. There are three sets of prayers: one for morning, one for mid-day, one for evening, but we will be saying all of the prayers in our evening time together. Interspersed in this series of prayers will be meditations. During the meditations we will call upon the presence of one person; a person whose way of behaving in the world disturbs our peace. We will intimately connect in meditation with this person, going beyond personality, soul to soul. Each of the three meditations goes a little deeper than the previous one in sending love, accepting the beauty and innocence of this “difficult one” and ultimately recognizing our unity with him/her/them.
4th Tuesdays: will be in-person at Interfaith Community Sanctuary.
No need to register. You can just show up. Interfaith Community Sanctuary does have a parking lot which is accessed from an alley from 20th Ave NW.
