Roots of Joy Wild Church                 EARTH CIRCLE

Most Saturdays  9:00 -10:45 AM

Theme:  On this day at Wild Church we will be using a Sufi practice of repeating some Divine Names.  We will talk briefly about the names and recite them together then you will be encouraged to take a walk or find a sit spot and repeat them on your own and allow nature to deepen the meaning for you.  Then we will gather and, if called, share what unfolded for us.

The Divine Name recitations that we will be using are:  Ya Qabid, Ya Basit and Ya Wasi’

Al Qabid– The One who contracts, the One who assesses, the One who seizes and contracts, the One who holds back

Al Basit – The One who relieves, the One who eases, the One who unfolds, the One who widens, the One who apportions generously

Al-Wasi’ is an embracing expansion.  It embraces without containing, narrowing or limiting.  Al-Wasi’ transcends all opposites and reveals the full potentiality.

We will reflect on the following phrases as we recite:

Ya Qabid – “I seek love.”

Ya Basit – “I am loved.”

Ya Wasi’ – “I am love.”

Location:  Carkeek Park, lower meadow (Model Airplane Field on map)

We will gather and sing a song or two.  There will be a short sermon or simply the reading of poem.     You will have time to walk and wander or simply sit apart from the group for a bit to commune with nature and allow the wisdom of Earth to speak to you.  Then we will gather again to share our thoughts and experiences.

Logistics

Concerning weather:  I will be there rain or shine or brisk wind.  Dangerous wind with falling trees will cancel.  Dress for the weather.  Bring a camp chair if you can.  I will have a few extra camp chairs and a few pads for sitting on the ground if that's your style.

Finding the right place.  Below is a link to a map.  Notice that you can drive to the Model Airplane Field and park there. There are some disabled parking spots there as well as regular parking spots.  If you are not familiar with Carkeek Park take note that there is a winding one-way road through the park and you need to wind your way past the playground and bridge to the beach and then turn right to get into the parking lot that is close to the Model Airplane Field (which I usually refer to as the Lower Meadow).

Hope to see you there!
